Inspiration and Expertise
Darlene graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. With over fifteen years of experience, Darlene is accomplished and seasoned in both the fine art and graphic design fields. Her work combines technical expertise with a sense of ingenuity and playfulness. “Creating art gives me a feeling of exhilaration and freedom,” says Darlene, “like a child turned lose on a playground after an eight hour trip in the car.” It is with this unrestricted vision that Darlene creates compelling images that evoke her subjects’ inner life.
Art and Animals
Her ability to connect with her subjects on a deep level makes Darlene’s artwork unique. “There’s a life and a personality which is being captured,” Darlene remarks on what inspires her portraits. A Humane Society volunteer, Darlene combines this artistic vision with her love of animals. “There’s something special about an animal’s love and the unique and sometimes funny way they look at you,” she notes. Her distinctive animal portraits capture this sense of love, humor, and emotional connection, bringing to light the unique spirits of her subjects.
Other Artistic Activities
In 2003, Darlene founded Bendt Design, a graphic design company. Her extensive commercial illustration and design experience includes award-winning newsletters, brochures, annual reports, corporate logos, and more, for clients ranging from small to multinational businesses.
